In
the green glen of Tarry town, there is a small single hangar
airport inhabited by Jay Jay, a chipper 6 year old, and his
airborne friends, who range in age from little Snuffy the
sky writer to the grandfatherly Oscar, a biplane who tells
exciting stories about the old barnstorming days.
Tarrytown's biggest celebrity is Savannah the supersonic jet,
holder of several world speed records. These companions all
have chubby aeroplane bodies and very human faces. The lifelike
looks are the result of an exciting new animation technique:
The show's narrators wear an apparatus that registers their
facial movements and transmits them to a computer, which then
maps them onto the planes' faces.
There are a couple of human characters, too. The most important
is Brenda Blue (Eve Whittle), ace mechanic and a little plane's
best friend. She provides reassurance and wisdom when the
junior fliers run into trouble. Not that much happens in Tarry
town. A typical episode involves a game of hide and seek or
surprise birthday party. These activities always teach us
a lesson - for instance, that everyone is unique or that safety
comes first!
